On June 15th, the 8th Industrial Organization and Digital Economy Forum and the inauguration ceremony of the Digital Economy Research Institute of East China University of Science and Technology was successfully held at Xuhui Campus. More than 150 experts and scholars from academia and industry, including Prof. Chen Yongmin from University of Colorado, Prof. Pan Shiyuan from Zhejiang University, Mr. Wu Xueliang, chief economics advisor of Tencent Research Institute, Prof. Qu Chuang from Shandong University, Prof. Yao Zhiyong from Fudan University, Prof. Yu Dianfan from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Mr. Zhou Zipeng, executive general manager of CICC Research Institute, and Prof. Shuai Jie from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, participated in the forum. Jiang Chuanhai, Secretary of the Party Committee of East China University of Science and Technology, attended the meeting and delivered a speech, and the opening ceremony was presided over by Yan Haifeng, Vice President of ECUST.
At the opening ceremony, the Digital Economy Research Institute of ECUST was inaugurated. Against the backdrop of China's rapid rise of the digital economy, the School set up the Digital Economy Research Institute to better help the government and enterprises to formulate policies and strategies, promoting China's economy to achieve high-quality development.
Prof. JIANG Chuanhai, Chair of the University Council pointed out that digital economy has become an important driving force for global economic growth. In the face of the increasingly urgent demand for digital talents, we should take up the important responsibility of nurturing digital talents, and closely follow the development needs of digital industrialization.
In the keynote session of the conference, Prof. CHEN Yongmin focused on the application of AI in product automation and innovation, and how to improve the safety of AI products. He mentioned that AI is replacing manual operations, such as self-driving cars, but its potential risks need to be kept in mind. Prof. PAN Shiyuan discussed how Chinese companies can conduct innovative activities in the face of US export controls.
Prof. FAN Tijun, Dean of ECUST School of Business, moderated the main forum session of the conference. Prof. WU Xuliang, Chief Economic Advisor at Tencent Research Institute, Prof. QU Chuang from Shandong University, Prof. YU Fanbiao from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Executive General Manager Zhou Zipeng from China International Capital Corporation Research Institute, and Prof. LI Youping from ECUST School of Business, respectively engaged in a lively and in-depth discussion on cutting-edge hot topics such as "Searching for the DNA of Digital Economy Innovation," "Market Power of Digital Platforms: Myth and Reality," "Complexity of Digital Technology and Corporate Market Power," "Economic Analysis Logic of Artificial Intelligence," and "Who Should Decide the Amount of Data Collection?".
In the closing ceremony, Prof. HOU Limin, Chair of the School Council stated that digital technology has brought new challenges and opportunities, which require us to collaborate more and actively address the issues we face together. ECUST School of Business will continue to provide an academic exchange platform, contributing its strength to the economic and social development of the country.
Since 2017, the School has been hosting academic forums in the field of industrial organization and has successfully held eight sessions to date. In the future, the School will continue to deepen industry-academia-research cooperation, gather wisdom from various parties, and continuously contribute to the promotion of China's digital economy development and the optimization and upgrading of industries.
